Should Evan have his admin status revoked?

Postby RogerG » Mon Nov 21, 2005 2:57 pm

Is it time for someone a little more left-wing to take over?

No, Evan is just doing his job. I believe that the rules come from higher up.
Evan is like the police officer in the forums where the rules are made by the government (other admins).

Personally I think that we should be allowed to have 'banners' at the ends of our posts, or be able to post gig posters.

I guess it comes down to, If you dont like the rules, noones making you post here. That isnt ment in a mean way either, just trying to make it a better place for everyone.

On a side note about the text in your avatar Rog, I think that it seems blown out of proportion because your the only one who has it. However if everyone started doing it, it would be bad. Think: Trying to stop an epidemic :)

So Evan's just cannon fodder? Bring out the Generals!

Hey, why not promote you band in your avatar?
I thought this site was for the promotion and stimulation of Dunedin music and all related to it?
Pardon me if I got it wrong!
When I was first on the internet, way back in the 80s, there was a thing called "netiquette" and comercial use was banned. Don't tell me I have to go through the whole growing up process again with DMC!

i gotta admit i agree with rog here

"....and all associated with it" i think is a key phrase here, gig photographers, radio stations, magazines and venues are all commercial entities with a huge impact on the local scene.

in my mind i think that they should be able to advertise thru banners/avatars as long as they adhure to size limitations

Evan is doing a fantastic job of moderating the site. The rules put in place are not his alone - all of us here at DMC were involved in them.

You may or may not agree with the rules, but they are there. If you do want them changed, bring it up in the Site Feedback forum (much like this thread).

However, suggesting the Evan has his moderator status revoked is a bit petty. As is claiming that he's "the police officer in the forums where the rules are made by the government (other admins)". Evan has invested a great deal of time and effort into this site and into supporting music in Dunedin. The poll should really be "Does Evan deserve a big pat on the back and a bunch of expensive beer?" with a resounding Yes for an answer.

We're trying to provide something for everyone here. As I said, if you have suggestions, let us know.

I think someone is just stirring... however:

Evan for Prime Minister I say.

Or, at the very least, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

A pat on the back and the offer of an expensive beer next time I see him sounds about right for his unstinting administration in the forum jungle at all hours of the day and night.

I was trying to say that Evan isn't just changing little rules or doing small things because he wants to.

yeah i think evan's doing well at all this, keeping it clean even though musicians are a dirty bunch.

thats kinda a good point though

Anyone who doesn't like all the bureaucracy here should go to Mike Puke's forums, he doesn't have ANY rules! Yay!
I won't post the address here, I might get told off! But I think if you search the forums you'll be able to find it.

Well, I have to admit that even Evan might be better than Nanny Clark, but Minister of Foreign Affairs? He'd have to take diplomacy courses first! Negotiate, not dictate!

Evan does a great job as our admin guy. We at dunedinmusic.com have put in a lot of time and effort into making this work and I am amazed at the diversity of opinion and ideas that have been so freely exchanged in the forums.
I guess that there are always going to be lots of different philosophies out there, when it comes to rules, and we are trying to keep them as reasonable as possible.

Ok, just to put an end to this, here are some comments:

Roger, Chewie, if you wish to pictorially advertise your commercial ventures on dunedinmusic.com, please contact sales@dunedinmusic.com and we can send you a ratecard and set the ball rolling from there. That is, if you don't feel that the free exposure you gain from textual advertising and discussion on the site is enough.

The rules and posting guidelines will be reviewed by the dmc team, of which I am a member, as we see fit. You are free to make your opinion on these rules known in this forum, but please refrain from threadjacking. MeTaL_mAnIaC, links to other forums are fine, and Mike has already posted his address somewhere here. Should anyone wish to join Mike's forum, the address is http://www.createforum.com/phpbb/oldschoolpunk.html

And on a personal note, the last few volleys from you, Roger, could well be perceived as abusive, slanderous, or hateful towards me, and you may remember ticking a box to the effect of promising not to do that when you signed up. As an admin I take probably as much "gentle ribbing" as Doomith, maybe even more: http://www.dunedinmusic.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=511 and I'm prepared to take most of it without backlash. However, any personal beef you have with me should be kept out of these forums. We are here to promote and discuss dunedin music, so why not just let the majority of users who have no issue here get on with that?
While I feel hurt that you seem ungrateful for or ignorant of the exposure our site has given your enterprise, what confuses me most is your behaviour in light of your experience having "grown up" with the internet. You know full well the implications of a commercialised environment, you are fully aware that this is not a democracy, yet you seem to long for the heady, unregulated early days that you implied were a failure due to this lack of regulation.

Your opinions on the two rules in question have been duly noted.
This is a signature.

Evan, nothing was intended as a personal attack on you and I apologise that you felt that way.

It is just a consequence of the fact that you seem to be only "voice" of management on the board, hence you cop the flak. As I said before, cannon fodder.

And, hey! If you've had to live through 60's pop, disco, punk, new romance, prog rock and some of the crap that's around today you'd turn into a twisted, cynical, anarchic old man too!

I promise to be a good boy from now on. Do I get a lollipop now?
